The Breed Standard of any Breed is controlled, updated and maintained by the parent organisation of the breed. In the case of the German Shepherd Dog, the breed standard is controlled by Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV) in Germany.
The Breed Standard Serves as a 'blueprint' of the ideal German Shepherd Dog. It provides an overwiew of the signature characteristics as desired, and lays out undesired faults. The Breed Standard should be carefully considered by Breeders and Judges alike.
The founding principles of the GSDF was that the organisation would follow a system as close as possible to that of the mother organisation in Germany, the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhunde (SV), but realistic within the South African context and what is in the best interest of the breed in South Africa.
The constitutions contains all the Rules & Regulations of the GSDF. The constitution is maintained from time to time by the constitutional committee. Queries may be directed to said committee directly.
